The last thing the world needs is some pissing contest between governments over who can aid the countries devastated by the tsunami the most. Giving should be a matter of what God places on your heart, a conversation with God and God alone on how much one should give. (I guess the IRS needs to know too). The poor widow only gave 2 small coins, but it meant so much more than the Pharisee that gave a garganutan amount; he was only seeking his own glory so others would look at him and state, "Wow, he's a great and generous guy". But even percentage of income or GNP shouldn't matter, it should be why you're really giving, who are you really trying to help, others so God can get all the glory, honor and praise...or yourself. Pride and self-glorification are the worst of sins. A servants heart is the trait we need to seek most for personal edification. But the most awesome thing is that I know personal donations from individuals quietly giving is going to blow away what any government will give.
