That's the Pakistan border right behind me, or the border of the Federally Mandated Tribal Area...which is pretty much unregulated except by village elders on their side. This is one of the unregulated border crossings, a place to off and on-load supplies from unescorted donkey and camel trains. People load up the pack animals with goods, smack them on the butt and they walk to the other side of the pass, where their off loaded, the loaded again and smacked on the but for another trip. I guess it would be hard to charge tariffs to a unescorted donkey or camel.
Border Policeman "Mr Camel, you're carrying $2000 worth of carpets, that will be a $20 tax to enter our country."
Mr Camel responds by chewing its cud then continuing to walk without paying.
We had a nice meeting on the Afghan side with some of the elders. We're doing numerous construction projects including schools, government centers and water distribution which they appreciate.
Sooo, all is well
